Prayer Key
Powerful Prayer: The Third of Three Keys to Powerful Prayer
In the first installment of Powerful Prayer we discovered we must be doers of God's Word and not just hearers; in other words, we must know what the Word of God says about a matter and do what it says to do. The second key we focused on was faith. We discovered that it is impossible to please God without faith. We also discovered that faith comes by hearing God's Word on a matter, and of course, after hearing that word one must decide to take action.
The third and final key concerns our words. That's right, our words. Words mean something; they are alive. As Christians, we must know what the Bible says concerning words to realize the importance of them to God. Proverbs 18:21 declares death and life to be in the power of our tongues. Again in Proverbs 12:14 we have witness to the power of our words, "A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth." This Scripture is declaring that we will experience good things by our words. Let's look at that principle one more time in the very next chapter of Proverbs; chapter 13, verse two: "A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth."
In both of the above Scriptures the reference to "Good" has to do with good things; it denotes good welfare, happiness, prosperity, and healing, and these are all attributes of God. In other words, our words have everything to do with God's ability to manifest His will toward us. To put it another way, God needs for us to align our words with His will so that His Word, His will, can manifest in our lives. How do we do that? Read on.
The first key is to get an education; find out what God's Word says on a matter at hand. The second key is to simply believe; take the knowledge we receive from God's Word and decide to believe in that word no matter what our physical senses may determine. The third key is to stand on God's Word by the declaration of our spoken words. It's a tired cliché in many religious circles, yet it is always true: "The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it."
Many in Christianity would refute the above cliché by lumping it with those of the "Name it and claim it" crowd, but the truth, according to Romans 4:17, is that we are to be like God who called things that were not as though they were. How did God do that? He did it with His words. How do we do that? We do it with His words in our conversations with Him... in our prayers!
